100 Shades of Grey... Oh and Green (photography, installation)
and
Sorry Mom i'm Not A Ballerina (Photography)
Experimentation and exploration are two words to describe my work. I like to explore different ways to exhibit my photography as well as experiment different methods to change a photo’s aesthetic. Not only do my works involve an emotional input, but I enjoy the technical aspects on how to produce an aesthetically pleasing photo.
In the piece “100 Shades of Grey… oh and Green”, I attempted something grand in concept and the idea of installation. The choice of using portraits for the medium of the installation was because they were simple and I enjoy producing them in the studeio; this way, I would be more focused on the physical installation opposed to the visual of the photography. In addition to this, since I have such an extroverted personality, I found it enjoyable having so many students that I could interact with.
In my other piece, “Sorry Mom, I’m not a Ballerina,” I was able to explore using studio lights in a non-studio environment addressing movement and dance. I had danced classical ballet for nine years as a child, and always found hip hop and the idea of ‘Dance Crew’ more intriguing. Dance Crew is not only about dance and hip hop, but it is about the crew members you share it with. There is a freestyle and unpredictable element that intrigues me greatly as well as its high energy and I wanted to portray that as much as possible.
